Scuba diving anyone?

Yesterday I talked about the power of writing down your goals. And to practice what I preach, here’s a goal that I’ve had for many years.

Do more scuba diving.

Colin gave me scuba diving lessons for our wedding present. We were staying on this sweet little Indonesian island with Nemo’s world all around us. The first time I descended the deep blue was like being submersed in the world’s coolest fish bowl. Knowing everything was in its natural habitat made me speechless (that and my mouthpiece). A massive turtle swam right past me.

To conserve energy and air, movements are slow and breathing easy. It’s much like meditation. It forced me to contain my enthusiasm and relax. My diving instructor was this patient Indonesian who gently guided me through this amazing world I had only seen on Lonely Planet. His trained eye made sure I didn’t miss a thing.

Since then, we have only been diving a few times. Living in one of the most landlocked areas on the planet doesn’t help. My brother has tried to tempt us into diving in the Missouri, but I’ve been spoiled. I like the sea.

My goal is to go diving at least twice a year. To start. Eventually I’d like to live somewhere where we can go diving all the time. But more on that one later.
