Random Acts of Kindness, Try It!

Yesterday my sister told me a local radio station was sponsoring an event called Drive-Thru-Difference. For one day you do a random act of kindness by paying for the order of the person behind you in a drive-thru.

Not wanting to promote fast food and rewarding others for eating it, I quickly dismissed the idea. I spoke to her later and asked her if she purchased a random stranger’s meal. She did one better. She paid for someone’s gas instead. How very cool!

She was still buzzing from the experience telling me that for some reason she was nervous. “My hands were just shaking when I did it and I don’t know why,” she said. She asked the cashier to just pick any vehicle that was paying inside. Thankfully he didn’t pick the SUV. She paid for their fuel, gave him the note to pass onto the lucky strangers, and left wishing she could had seen their faces.

Sometime this week I would like everyone to do one random act of kindness for a stranger. You can go to a drive-thru, or any place you’re making a purchase. The market, hair salon, deli, or coffee shop.

  1. Simply print out the letter below and head for your favorite shop, restaurant, anything.
  2. Place your order.
  3. When you are paying for your order, pay for the person’s order behind you!
  4. Give the letter to the cashier and ask them to give it to the car behind you.

I would love to hear about your experience - whether you gave a gift or received one. You can post it to the comments of this blog or send me an email.
