How My Husband & I Lost 50 lbs in 2 Months

During our visit back to London in May, Colin’s mom gave me a pair of trousers I left behind when we moved. I put them on straight away because they’re one of my favorites. But somehow they shrunk in the past 2 years. In fact, most of my wardrobe shrunk.

On the flight home we discussed ways we can drop shed some pounds. I voted for the lipo route. The next day our friend Dave came around and as fate would have it, he delivered our solution. He said, “Have you tried the South Beach diet? It’s easy.”

The recipes attracted us at first, they sounded so good. So we cleaned out our cupboards, said goodbye to the chocolate I just brought back from Europe, and loaded up on all new products.

Part way through our first phase of the diet (breaking our sugar addiction), we started reading about whole foods and the effects of additives and food like products. This changed our eating habits forever. The South Beach kicked it off but the rest was just eating natural, whole foods. And to be honest, it doesn’t feel like dieting at all because I’ve never eaten so well.

Two months later I shed a good 20 lbs and Colin lost over 30 lbs. I’m amazed at how we have more energy, our heads are clear, memories stronger, complexion glows, and sleep patterns improved. I always thought we had healthy diets before, but now I know how just how much the food we eat effect everything about us.

Here’s a few highlights of the new habits we’ve adapted:

  • No more refined sugar or corn syrup.
  • Only whole breads with the basic few ingredients.
  • Eggs or cut oats for breakfast.
  • Healthy snacks & salads for lunch.
  • Plenty of veg for dinner. Meat is the side dish.
  • We exercise or do yoga every day.
  • We go for a walk every evening after dinner.
  • We stay out of the middle isles at the grocery store.
  • We grill almost every night.

I’m not sure how we’ll keep up some of these habits once winter comes, but I’m sure fate will find a solution to that.
